VicRoads Surf with the Boys Tour kicks off at Jan Juc!

(Torquay, VIC – Friday February 3, 2012): The VicRoads Surf with the Boys Tour Presented by Play it Safe by the Water, Metricon and Global Surf Industries kicked off at Jan Juc beach today with some of the regions best young surfing talent on display.

Professional surfers Adam Robertson and Jack Perry were on hand to give the groms some tips in and out of the water on surfing safe and driving safe.

15 young boys from the area attended the session, which saw them get some tips on how to be more competent in the water and more competent on the roads.

Robertson was impressed with the enthusiasm of the boys

“All the boys were frothing, it was great to see.”

“This program is really good for young boys to show them the parallels between being safe in the surf and also being safe on the road. Its also heaps of fun!”

Despite the poor conditions, each surfer got the chance to share some waves with Robertson and Perry.

Each participant was given a brief on how to be safe in the water when surfing, how to be safe on the roads when they get their license and shown how to perform a basic board rescue.

The boys then got the chance to have a surf with the pros and see them in action.

The tour will now move to the Far West Coast of Victoria to Portland and Warrnambool.

The VicRoads Surf with the Boys Tour is driven by the new Ford Territory.

About VicRoads:

VicRoads purpose is to deliver social, economic and environmental benefits to communities throughout Victoria by managing the Victorian arterial road network and its use as an integral part of the overall transport system.

-       Make sure you get your 120 hours of practise driving when you are learning to drive. Experience makes you a better and safer driver.

-       Don’t text or talk on your mobile when you’re driving.

-       Assess the road conditions just as you would when you want to go for a surf and drive within the limitations of your experience as well as current conditions on the road.

-       Respect on the road is important, just like respecting the ocean and your mates.
