(Cape Woolamai, VIC – Friday February 17, 2012): The VicRoads Surf with the Boys Tour Presented by Play it Safe by the Water, Metricon and Global Surf Industries was run today at the world renowned beach break of Woolamai.

A joint initiative between Surfing Victoria, VicRoads and Play it Safe by the Water, the program aims to develop male surfer’s water skills and knowledge of road safety.

The famous beach produced bumpy 3ft rights for the boys to show their stuff to professional surfers Adam Robertson and Phil McDonald.

The boys went through a beach warn up before talking about the dangers of being in the water and on the road. Everyone then got the chance to get in the water and learn some tips off both Adam and Phil.

“It was pretty fun out there, the boys were stoked in the water” said Robertson.

“To be able to combine learning about road safety and water safety with going for a surf is a great idea.

A lot of these boys are getting to the driving age, so it’s important that they are aware of the dangers on the road.”

All participants received a heap of prizes on the day and had the opportunity to try out some of the Global Surf Industries Surfboard range.

The tour now moves to Lakes Entrance on Monday.

About VicRoads:

VicRoads purpose is to deliver social, economic and environmental benefits to communities throughout Victoria by managing the Victorian arterial road network and its use as an integral part of the overall transport system.

Vic Roads is aiming to get across 4 key messages through the program.

-       Make sure you get your 120 hours of practise driving when you are learning to drive. Experience makes you a better and safer driver.

-       Don’t text or talk on your mobile when you’re driving.

-       Assess the road conditions just as you would when you want to go for a surf and drive within the limitations of your experience as well as current conditions on the road.

-       Respect on the road is important, just like respecting the ocean and your mates.
